Philosopher Seeds at the Canary Island Cup
List of contents
Last 7 February, in Tenerife, the awards of the 8th edition of the Canary Island Cup were held, one of the most recognized events in the Canary Islands. Besides this cup, the 3rd Grow Seminar also took place during those days, where we could also enjoy a zone with stands and music concerts.
This year, Philosopher Seeds entered the competition for the first time, winning the first prize in the CBD category with Jack el Frutero , which reached 10,76% of this valued cannabinoid.
New and old friends at Tenerife's Canary Island Cup
We arrived on Thursday, the first day of the event. After the necessary tapas, we headed to meet Dario from La Loca María - one of his grow shops - the organizer of the competition. We had a very nice time with the first friends coming from la Península, like Dr. Feis, Jesús and Mar from Lisergia Grow Shop and Xavi from Trimpro, with whom we shared chats and lots of laughs! On Friday we visited Mr. Fantasy Grow Shop, one of the first grow shops ever in Spain, where we shared wonderful moments with our friend Massimiliano Salami and his lovely mother, both of them renowned cannabis activists. In La Laguna, we met Guille at his shop, Special Plant, a grow/tattoo shop where you can purchase seeds from Philosopher Seeds .
Canary Island Cup
The event took place in Finca Saroga, a magic place with impressive views over the ocean and beautiful gardens. The atmosphere was great - as usual - with around 1000 attendees coming from different parts of the archipelago, willing to share knowledge and marijuana buds.
Exhibitors zone of the Canary Cannabis Cup
Despite being in what people call the "lucky islands" , the organisation had to build two outdoor tents due to bad weather forecast. One tent was for exhibitors and the other for music concerts and conferences. Good for them!! It was an excellent idea because it allowed us to do our job perfectly. Our stand was crowded with people until the evening; it was a true pleasure for us meeting so many growers and realizing that Philosopher Seeds has followers in the Canary Islands. In our stand we could meet our friends from Mr. Fantasy, Special Plant, Loca Maria, El Jardin de la alegría, Corralejo Grow Shop, the Green Lyon association, Shaman Tenerife (growshop), El ojo rojo grow shop, Growpoint, Genethic, Positronic, R-Kiem Seeds, Vulcania Seeds and Biobizz.
3rd Edition of Marijuana Grow Seminar
The seminar comprised conferences on nutrient applications, outdoor growing in the Canary Islands, medicinal CBD (Mariano García de Palau) and cannabinoid analysis by Kalapa. A space for activists could not be missing, with a round table on cannabis regulation. Between conferences, the awards for all categories took place except for the professionals category, that was the last one. The seminar was closed with a spectacular demonstration by Dr. Fei who, accompanied by Amenofis Sound System, showed us the functioning of Subzero, drawing the attention of all the visitors during almost two hours. The day was closed with the performances of Gordo Master and Little Pepper.
Fruity Jack / Jack El Frutero, Winner of the CBD Cup
Around midnight, the awards for the professional category of the Canary Island Cup took place. An unforgettable moment for Philosopher's breeding team, for we were awarded with the first prize in the CBD Cup (10,76%) thanks to our Jack el Frutero strain, a phenotype that also fascinates for its splendid Haze taste. No more fines!!
However, not all is rosy in the Canary Island Cup, we can't close this post without mentioning a fact that, sadly, we must face during certain cannabis events. Despite the good vibes of the event, the authorities showed up early in the morning. At around 10:30 they started confiscating samples at the entrance of Finca Saroga, although the more surprising thing is that, after the closure of the event, at about 2am, 25 policemen were waiting for all of us at the nearest roundabout. A disproportionate and nonsense depoyment that made us feel more embarrassed than secure. Not to mention the cost for the taxpayers of 25 people working at midnight. Anyhow, such a surprise can't tarnish the wonderful days we had spent with all our friends. Congratulations and thanks to the organising crew for making this fantastic Canary Islands Cup possible.
See you next year!
